Prins will step in for an indisposed soloist and perform Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 with the Free State Symphony Orchestra later this week. The concert takes place on Saturday, 11 May 2024 at 19:30 under the baton of Vincent de Kort. Prins wins 2023 Woordtrofees On 13 November 2023, Megan-Geoffrey Prins won the 2023 Woordtrofees for Best Achievement Classical Music: Instrumental for his solo recital, Variations on Virtuosity, which he performed at this year's Toyota US Woordfees. "Thank you so much to the Toyota US Woordfees for giving me the honour of performing at the festival alongside incredible performing colleagues and for giving me this award," says Prins. He described being part of the festival for many years, first as a student attending productions, then later as performer. National Arts Festival 2023 Prins returns to the National Arts Festival in Makhanda for the first time since his performances as the Standard Bank Young Artist for Music in 2019. In a solo recital titled "(Re)visions - Megan-Geoffrey Prins in concert" Prins hopes to subvert art music hierarchies that place history above contemporary, global above local. While the program reflects on the canons of the past through the work of Ravel, it places equal value on the rebirth of art music through the works of international contemporary and local young composers. Performances take place between 24-25 June and more information is available through the NAF website. Toyota US Woordfees 2022 The Toyota US Woordfees is happening live and in-person again for the first time since March 2020. Prins performs in three productions at this year's festival. He joins Annien Shaw and David Pinoit for the piano trios of Ravel and Chausson on 13 October at 4pm in the Endler Hall. At 8pm on 13 October he performs a solo work as part of a program celebrating the music of Hans Roosenschoon, also in the Endler Hall. On 15 October, Prins, Nina Schumann, Luis Magalhaes, and Esthea Kruger join forces for a concert of Bach concerti for two, three, and four pianos, accompanied by an orchestra with Jacobus de Jager on the podium. Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival 2022 From 1-10 July Prins joins the esteemed faculty of the SICMF in a week of coachings and concerts. Prins first attended this festival as a student over a decade ago. "It is such an honour to be part of this festival as faculty all these years later," says Prins. His engagements include the South African premier of Joseph Krogulski's Piano Octet in D minor Op. 6 with Demarre McGill, Wenzel Fuchs, Alissa Margulis, Samson Diamond, Louise Lansdowne, Kyril Zlotnikov, and Tony Alcock. Chopin Piano Concerto No. 2 The inaugural Franschhoek Chamber Music Festival takes place from 24-27 February 2022. Prins' engagements at the festival include 5 concerts culminating in a performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with members of the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra on 27 February. Prins can also be heard in a concert of cello and piano works featuring Peter Martens as part of the Endler Concert Series in Stellenbosch on 19 February 2022. WFIMC Regional Meeting From 3-5 February 2022 Prins joins a delegation of the World Federation of International Music Competitions for a regional meeting that takes place during the UNISA International Strings Competition in Pretoria, South Africa. On 4 February, Prins will join a panel discussion entitled "Music of Africa on the Global Stage". Prins also serves as one of the official collaborative pianists for the competition. The competition rounds and panel discussions will be livestreamed on the UNISA Music Foundation Youtube Channel. Beethoven Triple Concerto LIVE Performing a live concert with orchestra is a rare opportunity given current circumstances. On 27 November 2021, Prins will join Samson Diamond and Aristide du Plessis in a performance of Beethoven's Concerto for Violin, Cello, and Piano in C major, Op. 56. The trio will collaborate with the Free State Symphony Orchestra in Bloemfontein under the baton of Bernhard Gueller. Strict COVID-19 protocols will be in place. Carnival of the Animals with Charl du Plessis and Nataniël Prins joins Charl du Plessis and Nataniël in an Afrikaans production of Carnival of the Animals featuring a new text composed by Nataniël. This concert is presented by the Aardklop Nasionale Kunstefees. "It's been great fun working with Charl du Plessis and Nataniël," says Prins, "it's not often that I get to laugh out loud while performing!" Toyota SU Woordfees 2021 In a first for South Africa, the Toyota SU Woordfees 2021 will take place on a television pop-up channel hosted by DStv. The Toyota SU Woordfees is a favourite for Prins. It usually takes place in Stellenbosch, South Africa, but this year it will broadcast in an innovative new format from 1-7 October. Prins will feature in two productions - a solo recital, recorded at the 2020 festival, and a quintet concert with the Amici Quartet, recorded for Concerts Connect in 2020. Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with GPO Although concerts are gradually starting to take place in person again, audiences can still watch Prins from the comfort of their home. Starting on 24 September 2021, the Brooklyn Theatre TV platform will stream a symphony concert featuring Prins performing Rachmaninov's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the Gauteng Philharmonic Orchestra and Eddie Clayton. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor with CPO From 29 July - 3 August 2021 audiences can stream a pre-recorded performance of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with Megan-Geoffrey Prins and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Bernhard Gueller. Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major with JPO Visit the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra's YouTube channel to view a free performance of Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 in A Major featuring Prins and conductor Brandon Phillips.
